Sally Gunnell goes ape to support the Great Gorilla Run
29 August 2008

In anticipation of the 2008 Great Gorilla Run, which this year takes place on 27 September, former World champion and Olympic Gold Medallist, Sally Gunnell, took to the trees of Go Ape’s high wire adventure course in Surrey to promote what promises to be the greatest Great Gorilla Run yet.

Joined by some furry friends, Sally was snapped zipping through the forest’s canopy, just weeks before hundreds of gorilla suited runners will take to the streets of London to run 7km in the sixth ever Great Gorilla Run.

Sally had the privilege of meeting wild mountain gorillas in Rwanda a few months ago and since then has been dedicated to doing what she can to help the London based Gorilla Organization protect them. "Meeting wild gorillas face-to-face in Rwanda was an incredible experience - one I will never forget. They are amazing creatures and it is so sad to think that unless we all do our bit to help, they may one day be extinct. The Great Gorilla Run is a fantastic way for people to get involved with gorilla conservation, raise lots of money and of course have a good time - so please, if you can, register for the Great Gorilla Run and do your bit for the gorillas!"

At this year’s Great Gorilla Run, sponsored by adventure travel company Explore, there will be 720 places for Great Gorilla runners - one runner for every remaining Mountain gorilla – if the places are filled, the 2008 Great Gorilla Run will break the Guinness World Record for the most people dressed up in gorilla suits in one place at one time!

Jillian Miller, the Gorilla Organization’s director said, "Each year the Great Gorilla Run gets better and better, and we are absolutely thrilled to have the support of Sally Gunnell this year. Sally has met many challenges and it is great to have her involvement in the challenge to save the gorillas”.
