Mr Gorilla shortlisted for JustGiving award
07 September 2017

Tom Harrison – AKA 'Mr Gorilla' – has been shortlisted for a JustGiving Award in recognition of his tireless efforts to raise money to save gorillas this summer.

The London policeman made headlines around the world when he donned his full gorilla suit and crawled the 2017 Virgin London Marathon. The remarkable feat took him six days and guaranteed him a place in the record books as the only person to complete the 26.2-mile course on all fours.

Gorilla-lovers around the world were bowled over by his efforts and contributed more than £40,000 to his JustGiving fund, smashing his original fundraising target.

For his efforts, the global fundraising site has named Tom one of their top fundraisers of 2017, and he has made the three-person shortlist for Creative Fundraiser of the Year, beating off strong competition from thousands of others.

Welcoming the announcement, the Gorilla Organization's Executive Director Jillian Miller said: "Tom united a nation behind gorillas, inspiring thousands to learn more about the plight of the great apes in the wild and give money to help ensure their survival. His commitment to the cause is truly inspiring and the amount of money he has raised for frontline conservation and community development projects is simply amazing. It's great to see Tom has been nominated for the JustGiving award – winning it would cap off an incredible year for Mr Gorilla!"

Members of the public are invited to vote for their favourite fundraiser on the JustGiving Awards webpage. Voting will close at midnight on Wednesday 11 October.

Mr Gorilla will be returning on Saturday 16 September for the 2017 Great Gorilla Run, joining Bill Oddie and hundreds of gorilla fans in London's most iconic fundraising event. Sign up today!
