London gets set for the Great Gorilla Run 2015!

Great Gorilla Run

Hundreds of runners from all around the world are getting ready to descend on London for the 2015 Great Gorilla Run.

Now in its 13th incredible year, the iconic event will once again see great ape fans of all ages don full gorilla suits and tackle an 8km course through the heart of the capital. And, once again, all the money raised will be used to fund the Gorilla Organization’s award-winning conservation and social development projects.

To date, the Great Gorilla Run has raised around £2 million for frontline conservation projects across Central Africa, while also raising much-needed awareness of the plight of the gorilla right around the world.

Indeed, such is the global reach of the costumed fun run that this year will be the most cosmopolitan run yet, with teams of runners from Sweden, Norway, Switzerland and even Australia due to compete.

Jillian Miller, Executive Director of the Gorilla Organization, says: “Over the years, the Great Gorilla Run has truly captured the imagination of the public, not least among animal-lovers determined to play their part in saving gorillas from extinction.

“The money raised by our wonderful runners and their supporters has made a real difference: rangers have been equipped, vital research has been carried out and dozens of communities, all of them living right alongside the National Parks, have been given the opportunity to live sustainably without having to rely on the resources found inside the gorilla habitat.”

The 2015 Great Gorilla Run will get underway from Minster Court (EC3), in the heart of the City of London at 10am. The runners will then follow a course that will take them over Tower Bridge and along the South Bank before crossing over the river again and racing back to the start line. Prospective runners are free to sign up on the day, or else just come along and cheer on the participants!
