Stanley Johnson to climb Mt Kilimanjaro
10 January 2011

In 2010 Stanley Johnson became the Gorilla Organization’s Chairman, he also turned 70. To celebrate these two events and to raise much needed funds for the Gorilla Organization, Stanley is taking on an enormous challenge – in February he will travel to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain.

Mt Kilimanjaro

“I don't suppose that this is a total cake-walk. I see that Martina Navratilova had to be airlifted off the mountain the other day (Dec 10, 2010), abandoning her charity climb. I am sure she is much fitter than I ever will be! Nevertheless, I firmly intend to make it to the top. And your sponsorship will only strengthen that determination!” Says Stanley.

Stanley is raising money to support the Gorilla Organization’s projects. Small amounts of money can make a huge difference.

Stanley in the Congo£25 will buy a ranger pack, including waterproofs, a torch and much-needed rations for gorilla rangers.

£50 will plant ten trees, which will help to build up the buffer zone that separates the gorilla habitat and the local communities.

£150 will supply a community with ten much-needed firewood-saving stoves.

Stanley is hoping to raise at least £10,000 for the Gorilla Organization. And thanks to the generosity of tour operator Kuoni, which is supporting the climb, all funds raised will go direct to the gorilla conservation projects in the field.
