After a tragic month at Mount Tshiaberimu in DR Congo, which saw the murder of a ranger by militia, the Gorilla Organization received some positive news from its team of rangers; a new baby gorilla had been born!
Despite ongoing conflict and political unrest in DR Congo, a recent survey of habituated gorilla groups in the Virunga National Park has revealed that 10 mountain gorillas were born during the last sixteen months.

Gorilla skaters took to the ice at London’s Natural History Museum on 15 January to launch the United Nations’ International Year of the Gorilla. Gorilla Organization trustee and primatologist Ian Redmond, who takes on the role of ambassador for the Year of the Gorilla, joined ITV Dancing on Ice star Donal Macintyre on the ice to mark the occasion.
It is with great sadness, that the Gorilla Organization today announced the death of wildlife ranger Safari Kakule in an attack at Mount Tshiaberimu on 9 January

Their close kinship to humans makes them stand out in the animal kingdom and their to ability to communicate, display intelligence and express emotions has captivated scientists, conservationists and the wider world for many years.

The Gorilla Organization has launched an appeal in response to the escalating crisis in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
As fighting between the Congolese national army and rebel soldiers intensifies in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Gorilla Organization’s staff in and around Goma city struggle to protect themselves and the endangered gorillas.

The Gorilla Organization is becoming increasingly concerned about the security situation in eastern DR Congo. On Sunday 26 October, rebel soldiers loyal to dissident general Laurent Nkunda, took control of the Virunga National Park headquarters at Rumangabo, and a major army base in the area.

During the last two days the rebels have advanced further and are now controlling much of the area in and around the Virunga National Park and threatening to take control of Goma town, where ...
